First Selectperson's Office The follow fees apply to Portland businesses in the possession of coin operated devices, such as but not limited to pin ball game machines, video games, pool tables, etc., within the Town's boundaries: OPERATOR'S FEES: DISTRIBUTOR'S FEES: Applications must be completed by both Operator (local business owner) and Distributor (of the coin operated machines). Permits are valid January 1st through December 31st of each calendar year. Permit to Vend, Canvass, Peddle, Hawk, Solicit and Licensing Purchasers of Precious Metals and Stones, the fee schedule is as follows:
See PEDDLEform Application The application must be completed in entirety at least three weeks prior to event (excludes annual licensing). The Police Department will perform a criminal history background check on the individual(s) applying. Fees can be waived with proof of Veteran's status or if a non-profit organization is distributing information, however completion of the form is required. The provisions shall not apply to persons soliciting orders of purchase for future delivery to regularly established customers; salesmen selling goods to retail or wholesale; to newspaper delivery; Portland Board of Education student fundraisers. |

Raffles and Bazaars In accordance with the State of Connecticut, the fee for Raffles and Bazaars: To be completed within Aggregate value of prizes Number allowed Fee to be paid for the permit Class 1 Raffle 3 months $15,000.00 1 per year $50.00 Forms can be received from both the Office of the First Selectwoman's and the State of Connecticut Division of Special Revenue. Only non-profit organizations that have been in existence for a minimum of one year or more are granted approval to conduct raffle/bazaars. Essentially, the fees are split amongst the Town and State, therefore, excluding Class 4 Raffles, when submitting an application there must be two checks; one payable to the Town of Portland and the other to the Division of Special Revenue. |
